What It Feels Like:
Peace and Assurance:
You experience a deep sense of peace, even in uncertainty. There’s a quiet confidence that God is with you, guiding your steps.
Clarity and Purpose:
Your goals feel aligned with your values and God’s Word. You have a clear sense of direction and motivation.
Joy and Contentment:
Even small steps forward bring joy. You are content, not striving for approval, but moving in faith.
Confidence and Boldness:
You make decisions with courage, trusting God’s wisdom over your own fears or others’ opinions.
Discernment:
You’re able to say “yes” and “no” wisely, filtering choices through prayer and scripture.
Fruitfulness:
You notice growth—patience, kindness, self-control, and other fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).
Gratitude and Worship:
Thankfulness flows easily. You see God’s hand in your daily life and respond with praise.
The Confidence That Comes:
Rooted Identity:
You know who you are in Christ—chosen, loved, and equipped. This identity anchors you against comparison and insecurity.
Steadfastness:
You stand firm when challenges arise, trusting God’s promises more than your circumstances.
Influence:
Others notice your peace and strength, and you become a positive influence, pointing them to God.
Drifting Further Away and Being Swayed by Others
What It Feels Like:
Restlessness and Anxiety:
You feel unsettled, worried, or overwhelmed. Peace is replaced by stress and confusion.
Lack of Direction:
Your goals become unclear or seem unimportant. You feel aimless or easily distracted.
Seeking Approval:
You find yourself making decisions based on others’ expectations or opinions, rather than God’s guidance.
Doubt and Insecurity:
Confidence fades. You second-guess yourself and feel unsure of your choices.
Compromise:
You’re more likely to compromise your values or ignore your convictions to fit in or avoid conflict.
Spiritual Dryness:
Prayer and scripture feel distant or neglected. Gratitude is replaced by complaining or comparison.
Isolation:
You may withdraw from supportive relationships or church community, feeling alone or misunderstood.
The Consequences:
Unsteady Identity:
You lose sight of your worth in Christ, feeling defined by others or by your failures.
Vulnerability to Temptation:
Without God’s guidance, it’s easier to fall into unhealthy habits or relationships.
Missed Opportunities:
Drifting can cause you to miss out on God’s best for you—His plans, peace, and purpose.
How to Return and Stay Close:
Pause and Reflect:
Notice the signs—are you feeling peace or restlessness? Joy or anxiety?
Pray Honestly:
Tell God where you are. He welcomes you back with open arms (Luke 15:20).
Re-align with Scripture:
Let God’s Word reset your priorities and remind you of His promises.
Seek Wise Community:
Surround yourself with believers who encourage and challenge you to follow God’s lead.
Take Small Steps:
One prayer, one act of obedience, one moment of gratitude at a time.
A Prayer for Confidence and Closeness
Lord, draw me closer to You. Help me recognize when I am drifting and gently lead me back. Give me the confidence that comes from knowing I am Yours. Let Your voice be louder than any other, and guide my steps toward Your purpose for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember:
Drawing close to God brings clarity, confidence, and peace. Drifting brings confusion and insecurity. Choose daily to align your heart with God’s, and you’ll walk in the confidence and purpose He created you for.
